Sharper Growth Choices from Customer Evidence
Client: Sports and gaming organisation
The Challenge
How can a leadership team move quickly from internal ideas to customer-backed growth choices, without mistaking more data for better judgement?
Our Approach
The organisation had ambitions for growth in a competitive category, plenty of internal ideas, and a gap in the middle: customer evidence strong enough to give senior decision-makers confidence about which opportunities to back. We designed a mixed-method evidence process to close that gap. Quantitative research explored how non-customers perceived the brand and proposition. Qualitative interviews dug into unmet needs and real behaviour. Existing product ideas and prototypes were put in front of the same audiences for structured feedback. Participants used the product in real conditions before giving their views, so the evidence reflected genuine experience rather than hypothetical opinion.
To make the evidence usable while fieldwork was still running, we built a custom research workflow and a live synthesis dashboard. Survey results updated frequently and deeper AI-supported synthesis refreshed overnight, bringing quantitative signals, interview evidence and emerging themes into one working view. The team could see patterns forming during the research, not weeks after it ended.
AI's role was deliberately bounded: it accelerated synthesis and helped connect qualitative and quantitative evidence, while judgement about what the evidence meant, and what to recommend, stayed human. We were equally deliberate about not over-claiming. Directional evidence was presented as directional, and the recommendations distinguished between what the research showed strongly and what still needed more confidence.
The client asked for the final output to be pointed rather than diplomatic: bold findings, a proposed direction and a clear rationale. That is what we delivered.
The Impact
The work shifted the conversation from internal opinion to customer evidence. Leaders came away with a sharper view of where the opportunity was strongest, which ideas deserved further development, and where more confidence was needed before committing investment.
The live dashboard also changed the working rhythm of the project. Instead of waiting for a final debrief, the team tracked emerging patterns throughout fieldwork, which meant the final recommendations landed as a confirmation of a shared picture rather than a surprise. Along the way, the research surfaced practical friction in the customer journey that the organisation had not fully seen, alongside the bigger strategic opportunities.
The evidence base: 110 survey respondents and 20 in-depth interviews. The owner told us he had never seen a research report like it. The work has since led to a strategic alignment workshop bringing the heads of marketing, operations, commercial and product together to action the priorities, working across those functions in a way the business had not done before.
Our Role
Nathan designed and built the research tooling: the survey and participant workflow, prototype feedback flows and the live synthesis dashboard. He co-led the analysis and the final strategic recommendation, combining AI-supported synthesis with human judgement about what the evidence meant for the client's choices.
